Soviet National Anthem - Stan Kenton 1972

Thinking outside of the box is an attribute of all innovative jazz musicians. Most of the greats never put a foot into the box to begin with.  Stan Kenton explored the world outside the box more than any other big band leader.  He took musical risks that sometimes ended as commercial failures.  One of the failures was his unusual 1972 album, National Anthems of the World, recorded seven years before he died. Who knows what prompted Stan to embark on this way out of the box project in the first place?  It's not currently available on CD, so Kenton collectors can find it only on hard to find vinyl and cassettes.

Here is the Kenton band playing Bob Curnow's arrangement of The Soviet National Anthem from that album.
